How do you come up with knitting ideas? What inspires your projects? It’s not always obvious how to answer these questions. But some ideas can easily be traced to their origin.
Modern Art Placemat
This Modern Art Placemat is easy to knit. The size of this placemat 10” x 10”. I used needles #3 and cotton yarn of different colors. I used only yarn that I had. I would not advise people to buy a lot of different yarn colors. I like to use yarn that I already have, especially when I have just a couple of yards of it… The Modern Art Placemat pattern is available for free.
Wassily Kandinsky Knitting Designs
Modern Art Pillow - Kandinsky, Gravitation
To design this Modern Art Pillow we were inspired by Wassily Kandinsky painting “Gravitation”, 1935.
To design this pillow (18” x 18”). We used needles #3 and cotton yarn of many colors. These colors are not exactly the same as colors on Kandinsky “Gravitation”. We mostly used yarn that we had and we would not advise people to buy a lot of different yarn colors. Paul Klee Cat Tea Cozy
We like to knit tea cozies and one of our first animal tea Ccozies was based on Paul Klee "Cat and Bird" painting.
The idea of the Cat tea cozy was born when we visited Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City. Once we saw the Cat by Paul Klee we knew we wanted to knit it.

This was our first Art Tea Cozy and we wish we could share a pattern but there was no pattern. We printed a picture and used yarns of different colors to imitate it.
